What Do You Want To Do With Your Kids?

Two books recently caught my eye, one is called 101 Things You Should Do Before Your Kids Leave Home, and the other book is 4 Things to Teach My Kids Before They Leave Home.

This got me thinking about creating my own list of things I want to do with my kids before they leave my home, even though, one of my kids has already gone off to college I still have many things I would like to do with my children. So, it's time I sit down and begin making my list and start doing it.

What about you what things do you want to do with your children or teach them before they leave home?

Do you have a list of the things you want to do with your kids?

Psalms 27: the Mom's Version

by: Jeanie Cullip
24/7 MOMS Inspiration Editor

My Jesus is simple, my Jesus is as big as it is far from the East to the West, my Jesus never ceases

With Jesus I can be confident in all that I do

no need to be full of anxiety and worry about my life

Troubles will draw near, problems will arise and people that do not have me and my family in their best interest will show up

In time all will come to pass

I can stand strong

even tho all that is around me is falling apart

I can be still

when all that is around me is hurried and rushed

This one Thing I Do

Is to know my Jesus

This one Thing I Do

Is to sit at His feet and listen

At the foot of the cross is where I can escape from all the chaos and all the noise

At the foot of the cross is where I can slip away from the disorganization and clutter

Jesus lifts me up when others try to bring me down

When I am in relationship with my Jesus I can rejoice and be glad in Him

Read Psalms 27:1-6 on Bible Gateway.

WIN - Families of Afghanistan DVD

Families of Afghanistan

Newest Title in the Award-Winning Families of the World Series.

Wins National Association of Parenting Publications Honors Award

The series – 25 titles and growing – enables future travelers to reach across the globe and visit other people and cultures, all from a child’s point of view. Always focusing on two children from differing households, one urban, one rural, and narrated by children, Families of the World DVDs invite viewers to follow two families’ daily routines, introducing both the similarities and differences that exist between them, as well as us.

In Families of Afghanistan, meet Zamora, 13, who lives in the country with her parents, three sisters, two brothers and two uncles. An early riser, Zamora has chores to complete before breakfast, including tending to the cows and chickens. She shows us how the homes in her village are built around a common courtyard to help protect them and their vegetable gardens from the elements. At meals, she often helps feed her uncle, who lost his arms and eyesight to a land mine. She attends religion class, where she studies the Koran, and performs her daily prayers (five times a day).

Twelve-year-old Madina lives in Kabul with her parents, two sisters, uncle and cousin. Unlike Zamora, who attends school in the afternoon, Madina’s classes are in the morning and include studies in math, science, language, history and sports. She also tutors another student twice a week in computers. After school and the midday meal she shares with her family, Madina helps with household chores like vacuuming and ironing, then enjoys an afternoon snowball fight before doing her homework, eating supper and playing games.

Families of the World is recommended for ages 5-11. Each DVD includes a free PDF Teacher’s Guide, which features the script, copy-ready maps, discussion and activity guides, recipes, glossaries and more.

More Grocery/Everyday Shopping Tips

Amy Hannold, 247Moms Frugal Living Editor

Last week, we detailed the less-cutting, less-clutter, savvy ways to everyday couponing. Using filed inserts and our choice of a variety of coupon files, we can save money on everyday items.

Technology has certainly made couponing easier, and what's even more popular are "clipless" money-saving tools.

I have a mere "beginner" Blackberry, but to be "in the know", I'm in the process of becoming more "App" savvy.

Those with "smarter" phones or IPhones of that type can mobily find a great deal. Here are a few to check out:

To Answer the Question: Which Should I Buy?

"CompareMe" ($1.99): When you want to know exactly which box/bag of a product is the best buy, or do the math for an advertised discount- it's at your fingertips (via your iPhone). "Android" phone users can utilize "Unit Price Compare" (Free).

"Clipless Coupons":
Check with your favorite retailer for clipless coupons loaded onto your loyal shopper/store card.
Websites:
PGEsaver.com
Shortcuts.com
Cellfire.com
Chosen and loaded coupons will be deducted with required purchase from your grocery receipt before payment.
Clipless coupons cannot be doubled and can only be used once per product, for the store card you have loaded them to.

Scanning Product Bar Codes with Your Phone: Find a Sale, product Recall, Make Your Grocery List:
Want to Save on a Particular Item? Use your IPhone or Blackberry to scan a barcode using the "Shopper" app.

Texts! Does your favorite store have your number?
Stores such as Target will alert you monthly of exclusive discounts. Show the code to the cashier, and you're saving money on the spot! Target.com/mobile or text "COUPONS" to 827438. Visit retailer/dining/attraction websites for similar savings.

Twitter; Your "In" to Super Savings! Are you "following" your favorite places to spend money or time? "Search.twitter.com" is the link to connecting with "Tweets" which will save you money. Become your city's "Must Be Followed Shopper": Tweet those good deals you find to others!

While You're Out on the Shopping Trail, Increase Your Steps to Health! "iTreadmill", a .99 cent app for iPhone, will count your steps and give you audio encouragement as you reach your walking goals. "SportyPal" is a free app which transfers your mobile workout distance to a website for visualizing your new habit of excercise.

Best overall tip I'm keeping in mind this coming week? Spend a little of your gift budget on half-price (or less) costumes - they'll make great gifts for the little ones come Christmas. Google a "do-it-yourself" dress-up trunk ideas and create a great gift for winter days. School supplies at pennies on the dollar may still be found.

Think homemade holidays, playdates are great days to create colorful placemats and wrapping paper to be used for the holidays.

Have Fun!

Call To Order: Family Meeting Time

My children were about the ages of four, six and eight when we called our first family meeting - to bring order to our home. My husband often refers to me as the CFO (Chief Family Organizer) and just like any officer of a company I realized the importance of having team meetings to run a successful organization. So, it was time to call to order the first family meeting for the Novotny team.

The Candy Fairy A Halloween Tradition

What to do with the bucket load of candy your children will arrive home with this Halloween is a question many pf us parents face each year.

Maybe your child has allergies to various ingredients found in candies or possibly you just don't want your kids to live on a week long sugar high.

I recently heard of a great Idea if you are in need of the bucket load of candy disappearing in your home this Halloween.

The Candy Fairy - Who comes during the night to replace the sugary treats with a toy or money. Tell your children about the Candy fairy and the ask them to leave their buckets of candy out so that the Candy Fairy can do her magic of replacing the candy with her gifts.

There is even a book about such a fairy
All Hallows Eve: The Story of the Halloween Fairy by Lisa Sferlazza Johnson.

A pinch of modern fairy dust is sprinkled on Halloween traditions in this playful, ghoul- and goblin-free introduction to the holiday. Eve, a young fairy from the All Hallows pumpkin patch, loves candy but is unable to make it—she can only create toys with her magic. Eve determinedly practices her spells, hoping she’ll be able to magic up candy on her birthday, October 31st. During her dress-up birthday party, Eve’s finest attempts yield only candy-shaped toys—such as candy bar blocks, candy cane whistles, and squeaky toy cakes. As her frustration grows, her party guests save the day by visiting all the pumpkins in the patch and collecting candy to fulfill Eve’s wish. Overjoyed by their kindness, Eve gratefully offers the toys she created to her friends. A tale of friendship, cooperation, and self-acceptance, this story also provides health-conscious families and those with specific dietary concerns an alternative way to enjoy the holiday activities.

DIY - Halloween Bucket Of Cookies

Looking for a FUN treat to deliver to friends and neighbors this Halloween? This weeks DIY MOMS from Tidy Mom is the perfect DIY gift.

Be sure to visit Tidy Mom and see her amazing blog.

A few weeks ago I told you that I was able to use an incredible farm to take senior pictures for two gorgeous fun girls!

I wanted to suck up to thank the family for letting me use their gorgeous property and hoping they will let me use it again!

They have three young children……so I thought what better way to thank mom and dad?………

FEED their kids with LOTS of sugar! lol

Think they’ll have me back?

Remember the Halloween Cookies I made? I made them to give to them, but wanted something cute to put them in.

So after wandering the aisles of Michaels one afternoon…..I came home with these……..

Halloween bucket supplies

and turned it into THIS!

Bucket of Halloween Cookies

I bagged up several of my Halloween Cookies, and then made some dipped pretzel rods.

I found Halloween colored Wilton Spooky Candy Melts and Halloween sprinkles for the pretzels and bagged them 5 to a bag.

You can visit this post to see how I dip pretzel rods using a piece of wax paper.—SO EASY!

Halloween Pretzels

I didn’t give them the cups…….we made them a few years ago.You can buy some cute Halloween plastic tumblers and put each child’s name on them with a paint pen- it even holds up thru the dishwasher.

The Halloween Bucket of Cookies & Pretzels was a BIG hit with the kids….and Mom & Dad!

Toy Story Green Alien Cupcakes

from : Family Fun

A troop of alien squeeze-toys played an important role in Buzz and Woody's adventure. It's a piece of cake to invite these little green monsters to your child's Toy Story-themed party.

You'll need:

  • Cupcakes, baked from your favorite recipe
  • White frosting, store-bought or from your favorite recipe
  • Neon green food coloring
  • Mint-flavored chewable candies (found packaged in rolls)
  • Green apple sour belts
  • Green apple sour straws, cut into 2" pieces
  • Black decorator gel icing
  • Kitchen shears, or a small leaf shaped fondant cutter
Instructions:

1. First, mix up a batch of alien green icing by adding few drops of neon green food coloring to your favorite white icing.

2. Prepare your aliens' ears. Cut ears, shaped like teardrops, from green apple belts. A pair of kitchen shears works well, or use a small leaf shaped fondant cutter. You will need 2 ears for each cupcake.

Step 2

3. Frost cupcakes and insert a 2" sour straw antenna. Press your ears into the sides of the cupcake.

Step 3

4. Line up three mint-flavored, chewable candies as eyes, and dot with black gel icing for pupils.

5. Give your aliens an awed expression by drawing on a circle for a mouth with black gel icing.
